I have been really impressed by the effort that these taxi drivers have made to re-engage with education.' Mary Alys , unionlearn Regional Manager, said: 'Unionlearn is working in partnership with unions and employers to make workplace learning accessible to union members throughout this region. Through our network of union learning reps, workers throughout the region are taking up courses, improving their skills and making real progress. The Union Learning Fund (ULF), administered by unionlearn, is making hundreds of projects like this possible across the country and changing thousands of lives.' Maggie Galliers , Principal of Leicester College said: 'This course has been a real success and much of that is due to the effective partnership work that has brought it about. It is a really good example of a course that has been designed specially to meet the needs of local industry. All of the drivers have shown such enthusiasm and dedication and I'm really pleased to say that we already have over 100 more people lined up to take the course.'' Taxi driver Vijay Patel said : 'When I first heard about this new training opportunity I was very keen to get involved. I think it is great for Taxi Drivers that there is now a qualification which recognises the skills we have and the job we do. I believe that this qualification will help to improve the image of Taxi Drivers. We really needed something like this. We are often the first contact for people travelling to Leicester. When visitors get off the train at the railway station and get into a taxi it is very important that they get a good impression of the City.'
