Top author Catrin Collier presents South Thames College with prestigious TUC unionlearn Quality Award

South Thames College in Putney received the prestigious unionlearn * Quality Award * from the bestselling author, Catrin Collier, who wrote the acclaimed 'Hearts of Gold' series of books, today (Monday 8 December). Sue Rimmer , College Principal, and Graham Peterson, Trade Union Studies Co-ordinator received the award on behalf of the College for its Trade Union Studies Programme.

South Thames College TUC Education Unit is one of more than 50 education providers that have received the unionlearn Quality Award since it was launched in June last year. The College works closely with union learning reps (ULRs) in south west London, who are part of a network of over 20,000 ULRs across the country.


Catrin Collier presents the top Quality Award to South Thames College's Graham Peterson and Sue Rimmer .

The unionlearn Quality Award is awarded to providers in the learning world who are committed to working with trade unions. Awards are made to providers who demonstrate that unions and union learners are considered in the design, development and delivery of courses and programmes. Providers achieving the unionlearn Quality Award will be included on the unionlearn website which receives over three million hits per month.

Bestselling author, Catrin Collier , said, 'South Thames college fully deserves its Quality Award in recognition of its work in providing learning opportunities for trade unions and their members. Sue Rimmer and Graham Peterson are playing important roles in raising skills levels in South West London, and through that work are helping individuals to develop their full potential. This important work also brings benefits to their families, their communities and their employers.'

Graham Peterson, Trade Union Studies Coordinator said: 'South Thames College is proud and delighted to receive recognition for the success its TUC Education Programme. By working with union learning representatives, we have been able to attract more union learners to take their first steps in learning for many years which has in turn led to further study. We look forward to making this happen for even more learners over the next few years.'
