Unite and Barclaycard sign learning agreementOnce again, unions and employers are working together for the benefit of members and staff at Barclaycard in Stockton. For 18 months, the call centre has had a workplace-learning project named Insight, the last year of which has been funded by the region's Learning for All Fund. Insight has also secured a second year of funding having already engaged many learners, with the potential for many more.

To cement their commitment to learning and embed it into the Barclaycard structures, a learning agreement between Unite and Barclaycard was drawn up and signed on April 1st by Elaine Mockler, Head of Sales and Service, for UK cards at Barclaycard, Ray Harrison, Head of Training, Development and Coaching and Meg Crack, National Development Officer of Unite (Amicus section). The agreement focussed on the continued development of the joint Union Employer Learning Partnership Committee and how this can be used to drive forward the learning agenda at the same time as ensuring equal access to learning opportunities for all.
Ray Harrison, Head of Training, Development and Coaching said, 'The Insight project is fantastic for the union, Barclaycard, and our 1000 staff here in Stockton. Workforce and individual development can only be beneficial for all concerned and making it readily accessible and a quality, dedicated service will mean people get the positive learning experience they deserve.'
