Get The Bug - Warrington Borough Council Case study

Warren Moorhouse

Warren Moorhouse pictured left is a GMB Union member and has worked for Warrington Borough Council for over 5 years. Warren is 31 years old and left school with 4 O Levels,

Warren said, 'when I first enrolled in the centre, it was a Basic Computer course, then went on to an intermediate course and that gave me the bug then I wanted to do a plastering course but the nearest place was St Helens which was to far. My friend was doing an auto-cad course and invited me along. I signed up to the auto-cad basic course, I enjoyed it so much that I went on to do an intermediate course. I am now fully qualified in 2D drawing and want to progress to 3D.

Benefits for me

The benefits to me personally, are well allsorts. I had never been on a computer before, although I am a confident person, these two courses opened doors for me, it was like another world, a world where I knew, this is for me , even thoug there is still so much to learn really, but I am looking forward to it. I always enjoyed education, because of our new union-learning centre, it has given me the opportunity to progress, and without this initiative I know, I would not have started my learning again, it's great to knock off work, and go straight into the learning centre.

Another good point is once we learn skills we can brush up on them in the half hour or hour left over at the end of the day before we go home.

Since being bitten by this learning bug, I have purchased a computer, so I can continue my learning at home, this centre offers the opportunity for those who may not have that facility to use our centre.
