WinWin at Merseylearn
Mandy had previously achieved her ECDL* with Merseylearn and is now working through the ITQ as part of her ULR activities to become a NVQ* A1 assessor. A recent promotion at work saw Mandy move into the Projects Division where she met Carol and they got talking as good ULRs do. Carol was thinking of upscaling her computer skills and Mandy arranged a visit to the Merseylearn centre. After a skills check and initial interview, Carol decided that ITQ would be the most suitable way forward, starting with a module covering Email. For Carol it was a WinWin situation, not only getting the memory stick but also starting to work towards a computer qualification supported by her ULR and friend. Merseyside's local transport authority Mersytravel and one of the many U-Net centres signed up for the WinWin campaign encouraging existing learners to recruit new learners onto a range of ICT* and Skills for Life* courses. Centre Manger Phil Kelly summed up the campaign, saying, 'Our project workers and ULRs are good at getting new learners through the door, but when a current learner brings a friend in, we know that they will support and encourage each other to achieve their goals, actually making the enrolment and induction process that little bit easier for us. WinWin allows us to provide that little incentive that gets people talking about learning.'
