Handling casework for members is a key union function. This course is the essential foundation for developing your approach to handling casework in a professional and effective way.

| Who is this for |
The course is for all union officers and staff with a responsibility for handling cases referred by members. The course is particularly suitable for recently appointed officers and casework administrators and support staff.
Some knowledge of contracts of employment would be helpful but not essential. Previous training in handling members' problems would also be an advantage
The course is not suitable for union representatives covering a single workplace.

The course covers essential knowledge in these areas:
* using grievance and discipline procedures
* dispute resolution
* exploiting ACAS codes
* individual employment rights
* tribunal procedures, forms and time limits
* managing stress
* discrimination and harassment issues
* effective teamwork and delegation for casework
* filing systems and information technology
