Cultural Diversity Event

Date ; 30 November 2007
Time: 9.30am - 3.30pm
Venue: The Mechanics Institute is situated at 103 Princess Street, Manchester.

Unionlearn, through Manchester Trade Union Education Unit and the North West Regional Development agency is coordinating a cultural awareness project. Employers and Trades Unions are invited to an event being held at the Mechanics Institute in Manchester on the 30th of November.

The project includes promotion of cultural inclusion/cohesion within the workplace and the wider community and also the development of best practice in working with employers.

Come along and learn about what makes Britain a culturally diverse place and gain an understanding into the difficulties and barriers that exist in society.

At the Cultural Awareness event we will be trialing the TUC Cultural Awareness Toolkit which can be used in a variety of settings to stimulate learning and discussion. This toolkit comprises

  • A time-line based historical card game which are all educational but fun!
  • A work based scenarios game for trade union reps and/or employers
  • A calendar of religious and significant holidays for 2008
  • Activity pack of individual and group activities covering culture & diversity
  • An interactive CD-ROM with card game and additional resources

In addition to the toolkit, there will also be a performance by GW Theatre Group of their play 'From One Extreme to Another', which has been developed specifically to address cohesion issues.
