Green Skills
Welcome to unionlearn's Green Skills. This is where trade union members can find out about unionlearn's work to promote green skills and get more information about opportunities to gain environmental, low carbon and resource efficiency skills. Together with the TUC's "Green Workplaces" project, Unionlearn is promoting green skills for all workers as a vital component of tackling climate change, environmental degradation and creating new jobs in the green economy of tomorrow.
Greener deals
Unionlearn and the TUC's Green Workplace Project have published "Greener Deals", a guide is aimed at trade union reps and members with an interest in having a practical impact on environmental issues in the workplace, and in particular climate change. It offers advice on mapping union organisation around green issues, negotiating with your employer on environmental issues and encouraging other trade unionists to get active at work. Green Jobs
Unionlearn is a lead partner in a number of partnerships to support the development of skills for a green economy including East London Green Jobs Alliance, Green Apprenticeship Partnership South-London (GAPS) and North West Leicestershire Green Skills Partnership. Unionlearn's projects are developing new partnerships with colleges, employers, local government and the voluntary sector to deliver the skills needed in sectors such as waste management, low carbon construction, horticulture and the renewable energy industries.
Unionlearn is a partner to TUC affiliate Prospect's initiative to deliver an 'Environmental Science' competition for under 19 year old college students at UK Skills 2012. Further information is available by linking here (PDF) and entry should be by 15 March 2012 by clicking here.

5 March 2012 Unions offer leadership on green skills Trade unions are key to delivering the skills for a green economy, an audience of trade unionists heard in Taunton yesterday. Policy Officer Richard Blakeley told the conference that trade unions are pressing the case for investment in green skills within government, in localities, in the workplace and forming innovative new partnerships to deliver green skills and jobs.

21 October 2011 TUC's unionlearn says 'greener workplaces make economic sense' as it calls on Midlands employers to green their workplaces Unionlearn, the TUC's learning and skills organisation, is calling on employers in the Midlands to make their workplaces greener. Speaking at the Skills for Greener Industries conference hosted by Stephenson College, Tom Wilson, unionlearn director, will explain the work done by Green Reps (trained by TUC Education) to achieve energy savings and huge cost benefits for their employers. The conference will also focus on the importance of green skills in the region for future job creation.
