South East Learning at Work Day Fund

Learning at Work Day

Learning at Work (LAW) Day takes place on 22nd May 2008 and is a great opportunity to promote a workplace learning initiative. In previous years Union Learning Reps have used it to launch and advertise learning centres, arrange taster sessions or give awards and to promote learning in interesting and imaginative ways.

Across the UK people will be learning together, exploring new ideas, having a go at unusual activities and revealing hidden talents. Last year an estimated 5,000 organisations across the UK took part in a range of different activities from job swaps and IT training to treasure hunts and self-defence courses.

The South East Trade Union Learning at Work Day Fund

Here in the South East Working with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) we were able to offer funding to support workplace-learning activities on Learning at Work Day. The South East Trade Union LAW Day Fund helped to support over 60 workplace activities involving over 6000 people.

We are delighted to announce that SEEDA have agreed to another round of funding through the South East Trade Union LAW Day Fund for 2008. Affiliated unions can bid for up to £400 per workplace to fund learning activity on Learning at Work Day or during Adult Learners week.

This year priority will be given to applications from workplaces that have not previously received funding, this does not mean that previous applicants are excluded. Workplaces which have previously received funding must show that their proposed activities re different to previous years.

There will also be an opportunity to bid for further funding to run some follow on courses.

Which geographical areas does the fund cover?

Applications for the fund must be for workplaces in the following local areas:

Berkshire, Buckinghamshire (including Milton Keynes), Oxfordshire, Kent, Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Sussex and parts of Surrey. If you are unsure of your eligibility then please contact Adrian Ryan prior to writing your bid.

The applications must signed by an authorised person from the relevant Trade Union, if you don't know who the authorised person is please contact your unions head or regional office.

Applications must be received in Congress House by 5.00pm Friday 18th April 2008, for an application form or for further information please e-mail Adrian Ryan Aryan@tuc.org.uk or call 0207 467 1385.
