New Partnership signing between Stoke on Trent College and UnityA new partnership agreement was signed at Hillcrest House the Unity Head Office in Hanley on Friday 11th April 2008.
The partnership agreement entitled' working in partnership to promote and deliver learning opportunities' was signed by Geoff Bagnall , General Secretary of Unity and Graham Moore OBE, Principal of Stoke on Trent College. Unity is a trade union that is committed to offering people in local companies learning opportunities and a chance to extend their qualifications. The event was also attended by Maggi Rowland, Head of the Skills for Life* Faculty at Stoke on Trent College, Liz Mitchell from the Dyslexia Association and Paul Humphreys representing unionlearn* as well as representatives of local companies and newly qualified Union Learning Representatives. Both parties stressed the importance of the agreement as the way forward. To date over 1,000 learners from unionized workplaces have come through the skills for life route at Stoke College over the last five years and it has developed a reputation for delivery on local factories, including Wedgwood, Royal Doulton and Churchills. The signing is one of several agreements the college has with unions including UNITE and CWU, this good practice has already gained the college the unionlearn kite mark. The union has been an advocate of lifelong learning since the inception of the Union Learning Fund* and continues to support it's members in gaining new skills.
