Dave Anderson MP races to visit learners in Blaydon
The workplace learning project within the Co-op Retail Logistics depot has been established through funding from unionlearn's (the TUC's learning and skills organisation) Learning for All Fund, run by USDAW, in partnership with Co-op management. The aim of the centre is to engage as many employees as possible back into learning - either learning new skills, or brushing up on old ones like literacy and numeracy.
Dave Anderson MP said: 'We began developing the lifelong learning strategy over a decade ago and said that the ideal would be able to offer a win win situation for employers and employees - and here we have a perfect example of this with the U-Learn project. Congratulations to everyone involved - individuals, unions and employer, - I'm delighted that my constituency is benefitting from this kind of success.' Barney McGill, un ionlearn regional manager said: 'Dave's visit was a very productive one and it is great to see the hard work the project is doing being met with such enthusiasm by a government representative, illustrating the positive, and moreover, practical impact union-led learning initiatives can and do have for the union members, workers and employers who engage with them. I look forward to keeping Dave updated on the continuing success of our workplace learning projects in the region.' NOTES TO EDITORS: The Learning for All Fund is a pot of money used to help unions set up workplace learning projects to help upskill the region's workforce. It is a European Social Fund co-finance project through the Learning and Skills Council North East.
