Joan Ryan meets Warburtons staff using their loaves at new learning centre Local MP Joan Ryan will today (Thursday 4th June) attend the opening of a learning centre at Warburtons , along with Executive Director Brett Warburton, Joe Marino, General Secretary of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) and co-host of TalkSPORT , Ronnie Irani . Supported by unionlearn*, the TUC's learning and skills organisation, the BFAWU and Warburtons have established a learning centre so that staff can improve their skills through taking courses. Staff will be able to brush up on their literacy and numeracy, as well as IT skills thanks to the excellent cooperation between the BFAWU and Warburtons . The centre will be officially opened at 3.30pm after a tour of the bakery and learning centre. Joan Ryan MP said: 'I was delighted to be able to visit Warburton's in Enfield to see the new learning centre being opened. Whether it's get training for work, improving skills and gaining new ones, or just learning something fun, this new centre will be a valuable resource for everyone at the factory.' Barry Francis, unionlearn regional manager said: 'The BFAWU is a fantastic supporter of learning and have worked together with a host of employers, such as Warburtons to enhance their members' skills. Unions and employers working together can make a real difference, especially in a recession, when both individuals and organisations need to make the most of their skills.'
