embargo: for immediate release Launch of initiative to aid recovery from recession in the regionThis week's employment figures, on the back of the disappointing decision that Tata Corus are going ahead with mothballing the Redcar Steelworks, shows that there remains a good deal of work required to lead the region out of recession. Trade unions are key partners in aiding this recovery. Whether it is working with employers to mitigate job losses, as many trade unions have, or providing support, information, advice and guidance to workers looking to improve their skills and retain their place in the labour marker, trade union representatives are key players in future growth. Launching this Friday 19th February, the joint TUC and unionlearn 'Recovery from Recession' initiative is making, and will continue to make, a very positive difference in enabling the region to recover quickly and strongly from the downturn and will contribute to ensuring that workers in this region make the most of the significant opportunities in low Carbon manufacturing as demonstrated by the launch of the Neptune Blade facility by The Prime Minister Gordon Brown earlier today.
