The network of Union Learning Representatives represents, for unions, the possibility to make learning a key part of the union offer and build active workplaces with skilled and committed reps and members.

Unionlearn have produced a new range of organising materials to accompany the Kate and Umar film. It aims to promote trade union membership. They include: Becoming a rep leaflet, Joining a union leaflet, Joining a union poster, Learning centre organising checklist. Find out more

 

Two pieces of research Union learning, Union recruitment and Organising and Organise to learn and learning to organise, was launched by unionlearn.
The new research shows how learning officers endorse the role of unionlearn in promoting the links between union learning and organisation, and in helping to make union learning a core trade union activity.

 

The WinWin campaign is about demonstrating the value of getting involved in learning. As part of the WinWin campaign, if you recruit a new learner at your local centre (those involved in the pilot) you will receive a 1GB USB memory stick. Find out more about the WinWin campaign.

Save our maritime skills
Maritime unions RMT and Nautilus are running a campaign calling upon the Government to provide long-awaited support for the training and employment of UK seafarers. Britain is an island nation which relies on ships and seafarers for more than 90 per cent of imports and exports, but the maintenance of maritime expertise is in danger – particularly given the recent announcement of plans for major redundancies by one of the largest employers.

Integrating union learning and organising strategies – Research Paper 8
Research commissioned by unionlearn, suggests that unions are increasingly promoting a relationship between learning and organising at a national union level. The research which was carried out by the Working Lives Research Institute is based on a survey of national officers of selected unions and case studies based on their workplaces and branches.

Unionlearn director congratulates CWU on mainstreaming union learning
Unionlearn director Liz Smith congratulated the Communication Workers Union on agreeing a number of important new policy and rule changes that will bring union learning into the mainstream of the union's structures and democratic processes at their Annual Conference in Bournemouth this week.
