Unionlearn East Midlands migrant workers learning project East Midlands unionlearn* has been successful in securing funding from East Midlands Development Agency for the development and delivery of level 3 and 4 courses in leadership and management across the region via unions. This project is designed to help skilled migrants to fulfil their economic potential and increase their value to the regional economy. The project will support workers to take higher-level English qualifications so that they are able to meet the shortfall in the region of first line managers and technicians. Jurgita Pranculyte is now the project worker to develop opportunities for migrant workers within the East Midlands. Unionlearn recognises that well trained migrant workers (particularly at supervisory/team leader level) are vital for the well being, safety, personal development and general satisfaction at work of union members and that a lack of opportunity to train or have their homeland qualifications recognised in this area is preventing workers from achieving their full potential. Jurgita says: 'This project is essential in enhancing the economic impact of highly skilled migrant workers within the region. This will be achieved by recognising workers' existing qualifications and providing training (supervisory and management) to enable them to fulfil their potential, contribute more effectively to the businesses employing them and ultimately benefit the regional economy.'
