BLACK & ETHNIC WORKERS INTO MANAGEMENT

Back by popular demand the FREE one day workshop - Black and Ethnic Workers into Management will be run on the 19th MAY in LEICESTER and 7th JULY in NOTTINGHAM. For more information contact Irene Murray, Development Worker at irene.murray@tuc.org.uk or phone 07810 772915.

Background Information

At the TUC Black Worker Conference of 2008, it was noted that whilst the employment rate for black and ethnic minority workers may have increased, the pay gap (since 2001) with white workers has also increased. Those workers from Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities were the most disadvantaged. This in turn means the children of black workers are still much more likely to be poor than the children of white families.

As a small but active step in redressing this inequality - unionlearn* in the East Midlands would like to provide a starting base for those Black and minority ethnic workers who would like to look at their potential to become first line managers/supervisors. It will be a real opportunity to look at the common barriers faced 'moving up the ladder'.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for free training for members and their colleagues - exclusive to Black and minority ethnic workers. The trainer Hazel Baptiste-Wilson is an experienced Black tutor on a wide range of subjects specialising with the TUC in Diversity Awareness.

Please contact Irene Murray at irene.murray@tuc.org.uk or on 07810 772915.
