Young people need signposting to training in the skills of the future

In response to today's GCSE results, Tom Wilson, director of unionlearn, said: 'For those leaving school this summer, there must be a viable and robust vocational qualification system that is supported by employers and provides them with the skills for the jobs of the future. The apprenticeship route is one that many 16 year olds should be considering, but employers are providing only three apprenticeship places for every 1,000 16 to 24-year- olds they employ. The Government has said that it is putting an extra £150 million into apprentices, but the apprenticeships system will only be a success if employers are willing to take them on.'
