union learning celebrates and excellent eight
As the regional learndirect Achievement Awards 2008 approach (Thursday 12th June) union learning has already made its mark on this year's proceedings, with eight of the finalists either a trade union education centre, (supported by unionlearn, the TUC's learning and skills organisation) or an individual linked to a trade union education learning centre.

Gedling MP Vernon Coaker meets union learners at Findel Education
Vernon Coaker MP today (Friday 18th April) saw how his constituents are benefiting from union-led learning during a visit to Findel Education in his Gedling constituency. The MP visited the on-site learning centre which is the result of a successful partnership between unionlearn (the TUC's learning and skills organisation), USDAW (the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers) and Findel Education.

Hilary Benn sees the LOGIK of union learning in Leeds
Leeds Central MP and Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Hilary Benn saw how constituents are benefiting from union-led learning during a visit to the LOGIK Centre at Leeds University. The MP met union learning reps from Unite, UNISON and UCU as well as learners. They were keen to tell him about how they had improved their skills at the learning centre.

Minister brings new union learning initiative to Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire
Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education and the Southern and Eastern region unionlearn will launch a new union learning initiative for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire on Friday 29 September at the Royal Hotel, Mill Street, Luton. The Beds and Herts Trade Union Learning Forum (BHTULF) will bring together all of the major organisations involved in skills and training in the two counties and will include: trade unions, employers, training providers, Learning and Skills Councils (LSCs), and Sector Skills Councils (SSCs). The inaugural meeting will discuss how trade unions and their members and employers can benefit from Train to Gain, the Government's new skills initiative.
