embargo: none Jo Brand presents West Thames College and FBU with prestigious TUC unionlearn Quality AwardAngela Heathcote, Director of Employment Engagement , West Thames College and Tim Davis, FBU London Regional Lifelong Learning Coordinator received the prestigious unionlearn Quality Award from Jo Brand. The award was made for the ITQ2 Delivery Programme, at unionlearn's third annual conference in central London. West Thames College and the FBU are two of over 80 education providers to have received the award.
The unionlearn Quality Award is awarded to providers in the learning world who are committed to working with trade unions. Awards are made to providers who demonstrate that unions and union learners are considered in the design, development and delivery of courses and programmes. Those providers achieving the unionlearn Quality Award will be included on the unionlearn website which receives over three million hits per month. Jo Brand said: ' I know through my time working as a psychiatric nurse that learning benefits not only people's confidence and their careers, but also their health. So I'm pleased today to be supporting the TUC's unionlearn, which has made such a difference to workplace learning.' Angela Heathcote, Director of Employer Engagement, West Thames College, said: 'Union learning reps have an in-depth understanding of members' concerns when they return to learning after a considerable break. Working with the Fire Brigades Union reps from the local fire station has certainly been a worthwhile experience for us, as we see everyone from managers to the station cook achieve their aims.' Barry Francis, unionlearn regional manager said: 'Unionlearn and trade unions are ensuring that the education members receive is of the highest standard and the unionlearn Quality Award guarantees this. Our work with West Thames College and the FBU is reaping real benefits and I am delighted to see them receive this award from Jo Brand.'
