The TUC Educational Trust can provide bursaries for the courses at Keele University. Bursaries are available for the undergraduate Keele Certificate in Industrial Relations and for a range of part-time industrial relations postgraduate courses.
The Certificate programme takes a detailed look at the three main sets of institutions in industrial relations: the unions, the employers and the state.
The course builds towards a detailed analysis of industrial relations using students’ existing knowledge and experience. It situates current developments in industrial relations within their historical context and includes a wide range of examples from the private and public sectors of industry, different occupations and trade unions. It also allows students to choose options to pursue specialist interests.
The Certificate is open to anyone with industrial relations experience. All applicants are asked to attend an interview.
The course is delivered through three residentials at Keele (in September, January and April) supported by distance learning study packs, electronic resources and a dedicated personal tutor Each student does five essay assignments, which become progressively longer as the course proceeds. Particular attention is given to the development of study skills and writing techniques.
Candidates will usually have successfully completed courses run by their own trade union or the TUC, up to and including higher level learning.
The TUC Educational Trust can provide for ten bursaries of £250 to students who are offered a place on the above Certificate course.
Bursaries are alo available to students who are offered a place on the following part-time courses:
Keele MA pathways: Industrial Relations; Industrial Relations and Employment Law; Industrial Relations and HRM; European HRM and Industrial Relations
