Trade union PCS brings Adult Learners' Week* celebration to Cambridge
The Government Office for the East of England in Cambridge is celebrating Adult Learners' Week (17-23 May) with a host of stimulating activities. The theme for the week is 'Being Healthy' and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) is focusing on self-knowledge, effective communication, healthy eating, exercise and growing organic products.
Supported by unionlearn*, the TUC's learning and skills organisation, PCS staff at the Government Office for the East of England will take part in T'ai Chi classes and an Enneagram workshop, which explores the nine different personality types. These taster events will encourage staff to consider their work-life balance and to take up learning. Learning at Work Day (Thursday 22 May) is run by the Campaign for Learning* and Adult Learners' Week is organised by NIACE*, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education.
Babs Wyganowski, a PCS union learning rep said: 'Adult Learners' Week provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate learning in Cambridge, a city world-renowned for education. With the support of unionlearn, the Office has been able to work with the trade union PCS to offer a great range of learning activities for our staff.'
Barry Francis, unionlearn Regional Manager said: 'Although Cambridge is famous for education, Adult Learners' Week is a special opportunity to focus on workplace learning and the great work that union learning reps are doing throughout the county. Unionlearn in the Southern and Eastern Region is delighted to be able to support workplace learning in this way.'
