Author Lola Jaye launches World Book Day with a Quick Read at local NHS Trust

Popular author Lola Jaye will launch her Quick Read Reaching for the Stars at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) in Chester today to celebrate World Book Day (Thursday 5th March). The event will also celebrate union-led learning with a number of local trade unions and unionlearn*, the TUC's learning and skills organisation. Lola will join learners, union learning reps, Roger Nielsen, CWP Associate Director of Workforce Development, Peter Urwin , Unison Regional Organiser and Tony Saunders of unionlearn with the North West TUC.

Lola will read from her book and take questions from the audience. She currently works full time for the NHS as a counsellor in North West London, but her passion for writing began when she was ten years old and crafted her own weekly series of stories.

Lola Jaye said: ' I feel really honoured and excited about being included in this year's Quick Reads* list. If only one reader takes something positive away from my book and is inspired to do more - then it will all have been worthwhile!'

Roger Nielsen, CWP Associate Director of Workforce Development, said: 'The Trust is pleased to have been chosen for the North West launch of World Book Day. We are very proud of the learning centre and the development opportunities and support provided for our staff. Welcoming Lola to the event adds an extra sparkle to our celebrations.'

Dave Eva, Regional Manager unionlearn with the North West TUC and Chair of CWP NHS Foundation Trust said: 'We are delighted to welcome Lola to the NHS Trust on World Book Day, which is a great opportunity to highlight how unions are providing learning opportunities for their members. The hospital's diverse range of staff is able to access learning thanks to an excellent partnership between the Trust, trade unions, professional bodies and unionlearn.'

Lola's Quick Read is one of ten being launched today as part of World Book Day. Quick Reads are specially written, many of them by best-selling authors and popular personalities, for both reluctant readers and for avid readers wanting a short, fast-paced read. Unionlearn in the North West is supporting many adult education projects which are raising skills levels throughout Cheshire. The TUC's learning and skills organisation is one of many partners working with Quick Reads to reach out to the millions of adults in the UK with reading difficulties and the one third of the British population that never picks up a book.
