embargo: No embargo Unionlearn wins National Excellence AwardUnionlearn North West has won a major award for its work supporting people who have been made redundant or have been under threat from redundancy, at a ceremony today (November 19, 2009) at London's Institute of Directors. The Matrix national quality award standard, under the aegis of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, recognises the work of individuals and organisations in supporting learning and training, and is measured by rigorous criteria. Dave Eva, unionlearn regional manager, said: 'This is the second time unionlearn North West has won the Matrix Excellence Award and it is a testament to the high quality service we provide members. It is also recognises the sterling work of our union learning reps (ULRs) in identifying the learners' needs and providing training tailored to their needs.' Tony Saunders, regional union development co-ordinator for unionlearn, said: 'We have seen some really imaginative ideas from unions on how to help staff at this difficult time. With the economic downturn continuing to have an impact on jobs, trade unions and their members are constantly under the threat of redundancy. Our work has enabled members to get the training and skills they need to remain in work or find other employment.'
