Date and time
Would you like to go to university for the first time but don't know where to start?
Whether it’s still just an idea or if you’ve found a subject you’d love to study further, if you've never been to university, and want to know how to go about it, then this event is for you!
Who is this event aimed at?
This live, online workshop is especially for trade union members and reps who are thinking about coming to university to study their first degree. It's particularly relevant if you have been out of formal study for a significant period of time.
It will assume that attendees will have little to no previous experience/ knowledge of studying at university. The session is being delivered by Birkbeck, University of London, an institution which has a strong relationship with unionlearn and a number of different unions, and a long, proud history of welcoming working Londoners from all backgrounds and walks of life. Under normal circumstances, courses at Birkbeck are largely face-to-face so those based in London and the South East might find our offer most relevant although all are welcome to join this event.
We hope all participants will leave reassured that they're not alone in their journey and it’s never too late to study at university, whatever your previous experience of education!
How can I take part?
Once you've registered, the week before the event we will send you through two short video resources. Please watch these in advance as they will help you to get the most out of the live event. In these videos we talk about:
- Why Study at University?
- Making a Decision About University
On the day, we'll email over a link to the event. All you need to do is click on the link which will take you through to a page where you will be able to see and hear us. There's no need to register in advance, you just write your name.
During the session you will be invited to take part in interactive activities and there will be opportunities to ask questions. We'll also be joined by a current Birkbeck undergraduate student who can give you a real insight into what it is actually like studying at Birkbeck, and starting at university after a break from the classroom!
