The Hollingdean Learning Centre has linked up with the Free University Brighton (FUB) to host a Freegree Open Day at the City Clean Depot on Saturday 15th July
The event is Free University Brighton’s annual open day. It’s where local people can find out more about the Universities degree-level course – otherwise known as the “Freegree”– and sign up if they want to.
People can meet some of their tutors and current students and have a taster session to see what it’s like.
FUB now run two degree-level courses – one in Social Sciences and Humanities and a new one in Philosophy. Both of them are completely free, externally validated and open to all.
There is no need to have A levels or any qualifications at all to join, just an open mind and a passion for learning.
Wes Emond is the GMB’s Learning Coordinator at the Hollingdean Depot Learning Centre and has been working with the FUB to put on the day.
The FUB offers lots of great learning opportunities for free across Brighton, and the Freegree Open Day in July is a chance to find out all about them. No need to sign up, just come along to the Hollingdean Depot Learning Centre on the day to find out more - and feel free to bring a friend.”
The Open day will have 30 Minute Taster Sessions at 1pm and 1.30pm. These are:
* Creative Strategies for Academic Writing
Do you get stuck with knowing what it is you need to write or how to get started with writing? In this short session we will start to look at different creative strategies – from free-writing to clay modelling – to help you get started and stay focused on your writing.
* Introduction to Research Methods
This practical session will introduce students to research methods using materials from the EU referendum to understand why people voted the way they did.
Adrian Ryan from unionlearn will be on hand at the event to highlight some of the learning opportunities on offer. Adrian said;
Wes and the team at Hollingdean Learning Centre have organised another great event – and the chance to find out more about the courses run by the Free University Brighton is a really good opportunity. I’ll also be showing off unionlearns Use-It initial assessment app and highlighting our work supporting apprentices – so pop along and say hello.”
The Learning Centre is at Upper Hollingdean Road, Brighton BN1 7GA and to find out more either email Wes ([email protected])
