As the apprenticeship levy goes live, the union role in negotiating high quality apprenticeships and providing direct support for them in the workplace is more important than ever.
Last month unions and employers attended an event organised by Yorkshire and the Humber TUC and unionlearn in Hull to explore ways to support high quality apprenticeships in the local area.
Nearly 40 delegates from across the region heard from speakers and discussed best practice at the Hull City of Culture Apprenticeship Conference. The event was staged as part of the annual National Apprenticeship Week and was held at Hull’s KC Stadium.
Unionlearn videoed the event and talked to employers and unions about their involvement in collaborative strategies to expand the number of high quality apprenticeships and the wide-ranging benefits of this approach for young people and the wider workforce.
