Learners of all ages can benefit from information gathered in this guide. It explores the sources of support and advice available especially for older workers when there is change at the workplace and choices need to be made on future paths and directions. Union Learning Reps (ULRs) are in key position to help people investigate what their next steps are in improving skills and considering new jobs or careers.

The contents of this guide draw from the experience built during the Skills: Recession and Recovery project which emphasised the role of learning and skills when economic downturn puts people's jobs at risk. This guide includes a large number of referral points to advice on learning, job search, career advice and moving on from work to retirement and complements the unionlearn Supporting learners guide series.
