Developing new skills after an inspiring apprenticeship
I started my apprenticeship in Business Administration at Sussex Coast College Hastings in June 2011 alongside the marketing team. I settled in well and the staff made me feel very welcome. My colleagues provided me with great support, which led me to win the Advanced Apprentice of The Year Award 2012.
Being an apprentice was brilliant as I got to earn while I learn, this was such a rewarding feeling. I developed new skills in many different areas just while learning in a business administration role, some of these skills were social media, design, marketing, finance and customer service. Having this experience helped me to grow my confidence and gave me the opportunity to meet lots of new people, which also helped me to develop my networking skills.
The apprenticeship programme has helped me tremendously by inspiring me to enter the world of marketing and gain all the knowledge and experience I can. Since completing my apprenticeship in January 2013, I was successful in obtaining a full time marketing position at the College.
From this role, it has helped me to further explore my skills and develop new interests into the Events Sector. This interest grew from helping to manage and run successful open evenings; by meeting lots of potential students helped me to develop my customer service skills.
After almost three years in the marketing team, it was time to take the next step in my career by taking on the challenge of becoming the Colleges Events Liaison Officer. I have now been in my role for over a year and still I am learning and developing new skills every day.
The best part of my role is meeting the clients and having discussions about their requirements, having this interaction gave me confidence and while developing networking skills.
I am now in my fourth year working for Sussex Coast College Hastings and proud to see how far I have developed in a short space of time. If there was once thing I would give to anyone who is thinking of applying for an apprenticeship, it is:
"Go for it, because you never know where it could lead you and will give you the confidence to succeed."
