Retired Tony keeps on learning thanks to the POA
Tony McGurrin is a retired Prison Service Operational Support Grade and started learning at the POA Learning centre at HMP High Down in January 2015. Tony leads a very active lifestyle, spending much of his time with his wife and grandchildren.
He is keen to keep up with modern technology and he obtained an iPad and laptop but wanted to learn how to use these to their full potential. Tony has now completed 12 online courses in the last 13 months which include Windows 2003, Adobe Photoshop and Digital Photography.
He is now very confident in using his iPad and is also proficient at taking photos of all his adventures with his family.
Sally Dearsley offers learning support at the POA Learning Centre at Highdown and said:
Tony finds his learning invaluable and attends Highdown Learning Centre most days. We actively encourage Tony to complete courses that are relevant to him and his lifestyle.
As Tonys' wife has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes he is currently learning about Nutrition and Health. This is also helping Tony as he is a vegetarian, and is helping him with nutritional values, fats and sugars etc of foods he eats."
Tony continues to show that you’re never too old to continue learning and POA Learning team at Highdown have congratulated him on his achievements and look forward to seeing more of him during his retirement.
