Elizabeth Moore-Wilson works for Sainsbury’s. She is a shop steward, health and safety rep and a ULR. She is very active in her local store and regularly goes to other local stores and the supermarket in Darlington to represent members and promotes courses for Lifelong Learning. 

Liz got wind of a local school who were struggling to build their library, so she went along to find out what they wanted or needed and then put up posters in her store and the local stores around her. She asked for unwanted children books and so far she has had a great response from the public and many books have been donated, which the children are now enjoying.  

Liz has arranged many courses in store and has currently got colleagues waiting to start distance learning courses such as Mental Health, Equality and Diversity and Understanding Diabetes. Whilst asking for books for the local school she has got colleagues back into reading by building up their own small library and challenging colleagues to take up the Six Book Challenge (now known as Reading Ahead)

These are only a few of the many reasons she has been nominated for colleague’s colleague of the year. Her colleagues have been very impressed by her dedication to helping her fellow members during representations and getting courses so people can do some up skilling all while helping her local community.

She has since taken this further by speaking with the CEO Mike Coupe and asked to provide some type of educational DVD around non visual disabilities. She has asked that this DVD is to cover basic British Sign Language to help colleagues at every store to be able to communicate with deaf customers. He thought this was a great idea and will look into this further.
