The weekly Job Club at Southport Library is celebrating its first known 'employment' success! James Currie, who lives in the town, was a regular user of the club which helps people try and find work and has recently found employment as a civil servant.

James is visually impaired and also helped volunteer at Southport Library, supporting others improve their IT skills. He supported the 'Learn my Way' one to one IT skills sessions and the Job Club assisting job seekers to improve their IT skills.

The popular Job Club has been running at Southport library throughout 2014 and was established with the help and support from the Prison Officers Association (POA). They provided 8 laptops for the group via their community learning project – POA Learning – which is part of a national programme funded by the Union Learning Fund (ULF).

James said:

"The Job club at Southport Library is very useful, engaging and offers great support for anyone seeking employment. Everyone at the club was very welcoming and helpful and the POA laptops have proved a great asset to jobseekers in the Southport area."

The club meets in The Atkinson Gallery every Wednesday from 2-4pm. POA Learning Project Manager Phil Kelly said, "James has been an asset to the club and certainly deserves the opportunity he now has. POA Learning supported this project because we can see how important such interventions are to the community".
