URTU awarded for learning partnership

URTU has received a prestigious award at Stafford College's annual Celebration Awards for outstanding support towards the union’s apprenticeship training programme.

The award recognised the partnership URTU, Clipper Logistics and Axia Solutions has developed recently to support learning at Clipper Logistics' Ollerton site in Nottinghamshire.

At the Celebration Awards, Simon Walker, URTU Learning Project Worker, said:

The learning partnership between URTU and Clipper Logistics' Ollerton site started last October when meetings were held between URTU Learning, our onsite Union Learning Rep, Damien Gill, and Clipper Logistics' HR Manager, Stacey Slater.”

During those initial meetings the union recognised the need for English and maths skills at the site and, subsequently, Axia Solutions was chosen to offer this learning support.

Simon added:

The commitment of the learners has been outstanding and, with the expertise of Axia Solutions and the full support of the Company, there has been an incredible 94% success rate. Praise must also go to the students who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve their qualifications".

Jeff Latham, the URTU Learning Project Manager said;

This award demonstrates what can be achieved when the employer works in partnership with our Union and a skills provider, such as Axia Solutions. We look forward to continuing our working partnership at Ollerton and, hopefully, at other Clipper Logistics' sites in the future".
