This newsletter is intended to keep unions and other stakeholders abreast of policy developments in learning and skills, including providing updates on what the TUC and unionlearn are saying on specific policy issues.

This edition includes an update on the ongoing development of the National Retraining Scheme and the recent rollout of the first phase of the scheme, the Get Help to Retrain online service. Other highlights include updates on recent measures by government to tighten up the regulation of apprentices’ entitlement to 20% off-the-job training and the rollout of new English and maths functional skills qualifications.

The newsletter also summarises recent TUC/unionlearn research and policy papers, including: a policy paper calling on the government to deliver on its commitment to introduce a national travel discount for apprentices; an analysis of recent trends in the amount and quality of workplace training that workers are receiving; and, an infographics pamphlet setting out the benefits of union learning.
