The Communication Workers Union (CWU) Wolverhampton & District Amal branch were delighted to launch their newly upgraded learning centre this summer. Based at the Wolverhampton Mail Centre, it has long been a site of learning and innovation.

Their embedded literacy course, exploring the story of the Cradley Heath Chain Makers’ strike, and their partnership with the Guru Nanak Satsang Sikh Temple has been inspirational to many of their ULRs.

However, over time the centre had become a little tired and the equipment was well past its best. Through the CWU Sustainability Fund the branch was able to source new equipment and most importantly lever in support from Royal Mail.

At a launch event, attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wolverhampton they were able to show off their refurbished centre, new laptops and interactive whiteboard.

Lead ULR, Steve Hackford was delighted to be opening the doors to their new centre:

It’s been a long time since we had courses on offer at our learning centre, with the help and support from Paul Dovey, the Branch and also the Management at NWMMC we can now offer our membership new courses and hopefully get back on the learning journey. It's been a hard couple of months improving our learning centre and I look forward to the challenges to come!"

Courses the centre will be offering include gardening, digital photography, health and wellbeing, understanding diabetes, mental health and more.
