Communication Workers Union (CWU)
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is the biggest union for the communications industry in the UK with over 200,000 members. The union was formed in January 1995 when the Union of Communication Workers joined forces with the National Communications Union.
CWU members work in Royal Mail, the Post Office, BT, Telefonica O2 and other telecommunication companies, cable TV, Accenture HR Services, financial services, and Santander, including subsidiaries Geoban, ISBAN and Produban. CWU members' expertise includes engineering, computing, clerical, mechanical, driving, retail, financial and manual skills.
The CWU has developed a network of learning centres across the UK and has delivered over 60,000 learning opportunities to our members and their families. The union offers a mix of formal and informal learning and are now developing our online capacity through the CWU Left Click moodle learning platform, which will offer a range of both online and blended learning opportunities.
CWU ULRs are organised into 10 Regional Learning Committees that are funded directly by the CWU. These Regional Learning Committees allow ULRs to organise, plan, support each other and share information and ideas. They develop their own Regional Learning Strategies to address the particular learning needs and concerns of their region.
