Mathew Press is a Bulk Farm Driver at Arla Foods Limited in Westbury, Wiltshire. Mathew recently became the Green Rep at the company and decided to sign up to a new Level 1 and 2 courses in Environmental Sustainability being offered by the BFAWU.

Mathew decided to sign up to the course to expand his knowledge of an increasingly global issue, however the courses gave him a chance to act locally.

Arla Foods is in the process of building a new depot and Mathew explained it has been interesting and useful:

This course has given me the opportunity to influence our new depot that is about to be completed.”

The course covered unnecessary wastage & what can be done & achieved to improve the way we work & the way we think about climate change.”

The employer has been very supportive of Mathews interest in environmental awareness, and how it might help reduce the carbon footprint of the company.

Mathew explained:

As the first Green Rep in Arla UK, he was pleased to support me and sees the benefit of to the company.”

I’ve already got really stuck into the role and all current regulations with our new build site have been covered and I have been meeting with the Wiltshire Climate Alliance (WCA) to further improve the biodiversity & sustainability areas.”

The Wiltshire Climate Alliance is an umbrella organisation for different groups to come together to campaign for action on climate change. The alliance welcomes a wide variety of groups and individuals and Mathew aims to seek help and advice from the WCA to continue to improve and hopefully expand the role of Green Rep.

Mathew has been really impressed with the courses that BFAWU Learning Services have been able to provide, and said:
