Unionlearn will be at this year’s Women Chainmakers Festival in Cradley Heath on Saturday July 6th with a wealth of resources and information to promote workplace learning.

The annual festival is organised by Midlands TUC and celebrates the achievements of women within the trade union both in the past and present, as well as examining the challenges facing women in work and wider society today.

The festival is a family friendly event involving market stalls, fun fair rides, speeches, street theatre, music and debate and will on Mary Macarthur Gardens with a banner parade up the High Street at Cradley Heath.

Music comes with a Latin vibe from Wara as well as local bands Third Junction, Sunflower Thieves and Emily Lockert whilst the Leftfield tent has activities for children, a young workers discussion and a panel led by TUC Women in Leadership course participants.

Unionlearn will be on hand to talk to about the workplace learning opportunities available to union members, the benefits of high-quality apprenticeships and ways to get involved and build skills at work.

Events like this are an ideal opportunity to show how unions are supporting workplace learning development and helping members build the skills they need. We will have lots of resources available so pop along to the unionlearn stall and say hello.”

TUC Midlands Regional Secretary, Lee Barron, said: 

It is absolutely right that we celebrate the role of female trade unionists and to use events such as the Chainmakers’ Festival to continue to raise awareness of the challenges facing women today.

This year we are excited to introduce debates in our ‘leftfield’ tent as we discuss what more we can do to tackle injustices facing women as well as looking at how we increase union membership amongst young people.

There is a superb line up of entertainment, headlined by the excellent Wara, so I urge people to come along and have a great day.”
