TUC Education offers green training

TUC Education are offering courses aimed at reps interested in making their workplace more sustainable and understanding how to encourage colleagues to be greener at work.

The courses are being run by TUC Education in the Yorkshire and The Humber and South West regions and are:

  • Introduction to the role of the Green Rep
  • Environment Matters
  • Green Shoots

The TUC South West course is first, starting on 1 December, and organised by City of Bristol College is an introduction to the role of the Green Rep. This is a 2-day course covering the role, tools to support you and how to develop member awareness.

The course is delivered online on Tuesday 1st and Tuesday 8th December with a mix of zoom sessions and activities to complete off line and emailed to your tutor – facilities time off to attend for one day a week will be needed to complete the courses.

This course is for union reps who may have an environmental role in the workplace, are thinking about how union representation should be organised in the workplace and would find a general awareness of environmental issues useful.

The Environment Matters and Green Shoots courses are both 3-day courses taking place in mid-January with TUC Yorkshire and The Humber through East Riding College in Hull.

Environment Matters is a new and up to date introduction to organising in the workplace using environmental issues, safety law and information and enabling them to use it more effectively. It helps reps build health and safety organisation and effect real change in the workplace.

The Green Shoots course explores how the Trade Union Rep can have a positive impact on sustainability in the workplace.

With green issues and the environment in general are at the forefront of news bulletins on a daily basis, this course will look at potential impacts on the workplace as well as looking at what union reps can do to promote green policies where they work. The whole course will be looked at from the environmental point of view.
